You should consult an orthopaedic surgeon if you experience persistent joint pain, stiffness, swelling, or difficulty in movement that affects daily activities. Conditions like knee pain, hip pain, sports injuries, fractures, or ligament tears may require expert evaluation. Early consultation helps in accurate diagnosis and timely treatment, preventing complications and long-term damage. If non-surgical treatments like medications or physiotherapy are not providing relief, it may be time to seek specialised orthopaedic care.

Dr. Alagu Pandiyan treats a wide range of orthopaedic conditions, including arthritis, joint pain, fractures, ligament injuries, sports injuries, and bone infections. His expertise includes robotic knee and hip replacement, arthroscopic ACL and shoulder surgeries, trauma care, paediatric orthopaedics, and regenerative therapies like PRP and stem cell treatment. He provides comprehensive care tailored to each patient’s condition, ensuring effective treatment and improved mobility.

Robotic knee replacement surgery is an advanced procedure that uses robotic technology to assist in precise implant placement. It allows for better alignment, improved joint function, and longer-lasting results compared to conventional surgery. This technique minimises damage to surrounding tissues, reduces post-operative pain, and supports faster recovery. It is commonly recommended for patients with severe arthritis or chronic knee pain not relieved by conservative treatments.

Recovery after hip replacement surgery varies depending on the patient’s condition and overall health. Most patients begin walking with support within a few days and gradually regain independence over a few weeks. Complete recovery, including strength and mobility, may take a few months. With advanced techniques and guided rehabilitation, patients can return to daily activities comfortably. Following post-operative care and physiotherapy plays a crucial role in achieving the best outcomes.

ACL reconstruction is a surgical procedure performed to replace a torn anterior cruciate ligament in the knee. It is commonly required for individuals experiencing knee instability, especially athletes or active individuals involved in sports. Symptoms include the knee giving way, swelling, and difficulty in movement. Arthroscopic ACL reconstruction restores stability and function, allowing patients to return to their normal or athletic activities with proper rehabilitation.

Some minor meniscus tears may heal with rest, physiotherapy, and medication, especially if they occur in areas with good blood supply. However, larger or complex tears often require surgical intervention. Arthroscopic meniscus repair helps preserve the knee joint and prevents long-term complications like arthritis. Early diagnosis and treatment are important to determine the best approach and ensure optimal recovery.

Arthroscopic shoulder surgery is a minimally invasive procedure used to treat conditions like rotator cuff tears, shoulder instability, and impingement. It involves smaller incisions, less pain, and faster recovery compared to open surgery. The technique allows precise repair of damaged tissues while preserving surrounding structures. Patients benefit from improved mobility, reduced discomfort, and a quicker return to normal activities with proper rehabilitation.

PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma) injection is a regenerative treatment that uses a patient’s own blood to promote healing. The platelets are concentrated and injected into the affected joint or tissue to reduce inflammation and accelerate repair. PRP is commonly used for knee pain, tendon injuries, and early arthritis. It is a safe, minimally invasive option that can help delay or avoid surgery in suitable cases.

Stem cell therapy is an advanced regenerative treatment used to repair damaged tissues such as cartilage, ligaments, and tendons. It involves using specialised cells that promote healing and regeneration. This therapy is often recommended for joint pain, early arthritis, and sports injuries. It offers a non-surgical approach aimed at improving function and reducing pain, although suitability depends on the individual condition.

Fracture treatment depends on the type, location, and severity of the injury. Simple fractures may be managed with casts or splints, while complex or displaced fractures often require surgical fixation using plates, screws, or rods. Advanced techniques ensure proper alignment and faster healing. Early treatment is important to avoid complications such as improper healing or loss of function.

Paediatric orthopaedics focuses on diagnosing and treating bone and joint conditions in children. This includes congenital deformities, growth-related issues, fractures, and infections. Children’s bones are different from adults, requiring specialised care and techniques. Early diagnosis and appropriate treatment help ensure proper growth, development, and long-term mobility.

Surgery is usually considered when conservative treatments like medication, physiotherapy, or injections do not provide relief. Severe pain, joint damage, reduced mobility, and impact on daily activities are key factors. Procedures like joint replacement or arthroscopy are recommended based on the condition. A detailed evaluation helps determine the most suitable treatment for long-term relief and improved function.
